The Bloomsbury Somali Studies Group, in partnership with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, is hosting a screening of the documentary ‘Through the Fire’ on Wednesday 12 March 2014.

This new film tells the stories of three extraordinary Somali women, Edna Adan Ismail, Dr Hawa Abdi and Ilwad Elman, who have each led groundbreaking humanitarian initiatives that have sustained their communities for years.

The film will be shown at 8pm in the Djam Lecture Theatre at SOAS, University of London, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.

This will be an important and exciting occasion to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Somalia, and particularly Somali women, today.

The event is open to the public, and all are welcome.
