Egusi Soup is a fast, furious, and funny family drama showing at The Albany, Deptford, from 25th – 28th March.
Written by Bruntwood Award Winner Janice Okoh, Egusi Soup is a spicy new comedy about love, life and loss within inter-generational and cross-cultural relationships. As the Anias, a British-Nigerian family pack their suitcases and prepare to head home to Lagos for a memorial service in honour of the late Mr Anyia, they soon realise they will need to get rid of some excess baggage first!
The Albany is a performing arts centre that is driven by the cultural diversity of South East London. Situated within a large Nigerian community itself, bringing Egusi Soup to The Albany provides an opportunity to involve people from surrounding communities and celebrate Nigerian culture.
Janice Okoh is an award-winning playwright. Her play ‘Three Birds’ won the 2011 Bruntswood Prize and was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award and the Alfred Fagon Award.
