A briefing from the Minister of Health, Hon. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, MP

Malawi’s recent Presidential elections hit the headlines because of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the initial result and the opposition candidate winning an overwhelming victory in the re-run. The new government of President Lazarus Chakwera, however, has been immediately faced with the serious challenge of managing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

We welcome the new Malawian Minister of Health, Honourable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, MP, to discuss the government’s response to Covid-19, a virus which has had as great an economic as medical impact in Malawi, where the reported number of confirmed cases is still below 6,000 and the reported death toll below 200.

Join the Royal African Society, the APPG for Africa, and APPG for Malawi for an open discussion that will cover the health care response, the economic impact, and the potential role for the international community in responding to the crisis.

Keynote Speaker: Honourable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Minister of Health, Malawi

Chair: Patrick Grady MP, Chair of the APPG for Malawi
