Our Royal Patron

Royal Patron

In January 2017 H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, Prince William, succeeded Her Majesty The Queen as Royal Patron of the Royal African Society. We warmly welcome him.

H.R.H. The Prince of Wales has taken an active interest in the Society since he took up the role of Royal Patron. He attended the Society’s Autumn Networking Reception in September 2018 where he was able to engage with the Society’s members and hear more about its activities and programmes.

His speech on that occasion demonstrated his personal commitment to and passion for the African continent, its people, environment and wildlife as well as his support for a number of initiatives on the continent.

He was able to share the enthusiasm with which young people of African origin engage with the Society, and how it seeks to connect with African voices, young and old, both in the UK and in Africa.
