Since its inception in 2012, the annual SOAS African Development Forum (ADF) has aimed to promote international interaction, generate lively thought-provoking dialogue and challenge assumptions surrounding development in Africa.

Under the banner of ‘Creative Africa’, this year’s Forum will focus on the potential of the creative industries to contribute to development on the continent. The creative industries are increasingly recognised as an essential source of economic growth. How is Africa harnessing this potential? And what dynamic political and cultural changes are artists and industries on the continent sparking?

Addressing the most current developments and their influence in the political, economic and cultural spheres, the Forum will centre around three interactive panel discussions with speakers from a range of different industries and disciplines.
• Creative Africa: Challenging the Political Landscape?
• Creative Africa: Driving Economic Growth?
• Creative Africa: Celebrating Culture and Heritage?

Confirmed speakers for “Creative Africa” include: Helen Jennings, founder of Kisua online, and former editor of Arise Magazine; Minna Salami, MsAfropolitan; Musa Okwonga; Isabel Moura Mendes, Africa in Motion Film Festival; and KwadwoOsei – Nyame (SOAS) amongst others.

The SOAS African Development Forum will be held at SOAS, University of London, Brunei Gallery on 15th March 2014 from 12pm – 5pm, with a drinks reception from 5pm onwards.
