In April 2020, the Namibian Government announced the first phase of the Economic Stimulus and Relief Package to address urgent funding needs in the health sector, mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, and support livelihoods at household level through the launch of the Emergency Income Grant (EIG).

Hon. Ipumbu Shiimi, Minister of Finance joins us live from Namibia to discuss the economic impact of  COVID-19 and how the government’s relief package has been supporting local businesses and citizens.

The Royal African Society’s ‘Economies to Watch’ series brings you Africa’s most dynamic economic profiles. Designed to draw the attention of London-based businesses to the African continent’s most exciting economies, to understand better what opportunities for trade and investment exist, and provide guidance on how to take up these opportunities.
