Poetry in the Primary Classroom Blog: Africa Writes Young Voices Roundtable

On Friday 24 September 2021 as part of Africa Writes Young Voices Festival 2021, we hosted an education round-table event, for those interested in the Poetry in the Primary Classroom Continuing Professional Development and Learning (CPDL) training programme.
This event brought together the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE), Gaby Wilson, a teacher from Earlsmead Primary School, and one of the programme’s poets Ruth Awolola. The panel discussed the learning from the programme, the impact on the teachers and the pupils, and what it really means to bring African and diaspora poetry into the primary classroom in a meaningful way.
