Royal African Society Appoints New Director

14th August 2023, London, UK – The Royal African Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Janet Rogan as its new Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective from 14 August 2023. Ms. Rogan brings with her an expansive career in the diplomatic service, international development and climate action, and her appointment marks a significant step forward in the Society’s mission to amplify African voices and understanding about Africa in the United Kingdom and beyond.
In her previous career as a UK and UN diplomat, Janet has worked extensively in senior roles requiring deep engagement with Africa, as well as experience from postings in Asia, the Middle East and the Balkans. Janet possesses a deep understanding of the African continent’s diverse cultures, challenges, and opportunities. Her impressive career has seen her champion key policy areas at the highest level, including social and economic development, humanitarian response, the climate nexus, conflict, and governance issues, as well as gender-based violence.

In her new role, Ms. Rogan will focus on ensuring the Society’s financial stability while continuing to expand its influence in delivering its core mission across all four pillars: Policy & Politics, Business, Arts & Culture, and Education.
