The Royal African Society is honoured to have attended the Out-Sourcing Inc Royal Charity Polo Cup 2024. Congratulations to all the teams who participated and especially to HRH The Prince of Wales on his team’s dashing last minute win! HRH’s love for Africa, the planet’s most youthful continent, and his commitment to making a difference on climate, environment and future prospects for young people and the planet, inspires our programmes and activities. We are deeply grateful to all the sponsors whose support will enable us to continue in our mandate of bringing the 54 countries of Africa and the UK closer together in understanding and engagement between us across all sectors.

The Royal African Society’s next opportunity to share the innovation and creativity of the African continent in the UK will be our spectacular film festival, Film Africa 2024 (25 October to 3 November), with around 80 films across many venues in London. The festival will open with Dahomey by Mati Diop, telling the story of the return journey of some of the Benin bronzes from Paris to Benin. In contrast, the closing film, Black Tea, will be the tale of a young woman from Côte d’Ivoire who runs away from an arranged marriage to China, where she falls in love with an older man, setting the stage for romance. There will also be programmes of feature length and short films, documentaries, animations, dine and views, special awards, and many workshops and opportunities to interact directly with the directors, actors and film industry specialists.
